EMDR at Everbloom

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a highly effective, evidence-based therapy specifically designed to help your brain heal from traumatic memories. Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR works directly with how your brain stores and processes distressing experiences.

How It Works: When you experience trauma, your brain can struggle to fully process the memory, leaving it "stuck" with the same intensity of emotion, physical sensations, and negative beliefs you felt during the original event. EMDR utilizes bilateral stimulation—typically guided eye movements, tapping, or sounds—to help your brain naturally reprocess these memories, similar to what occurs during REM sleep.

What to Expect: During EMDR sessions, you'll briefly focus on a traumatic memory while following Mary's hand movements with your eyes (or using another form of bilateral stimulation). This process allows your brain to "digest" the memory, reducing its emotional charge and helping you see it from a new, less distressing perspective. You won't forget what happened, but it will no longer feel as overwhelming or controlling.

Why EMDR Works: EMDR is particularly effective for trauma, PTSD, anxiety, and painful life experiences because it targets the root of the problem—how the memory is stored—rather than just managing symptoms. Many clients experience significant relief more quickly than with talk therapy alone, often feeling lighter, calmer, and more empowered after processing.

EMDR is safe, structured, and always moves at your pace. You remain in control throughout, and Mary will ensure you feel grounded and supported during every session. Mary's advanced certification through EMDRIA reflects her specialized training and commitment to providing high-quality, evidence-based trauma care.
